Collegedale, Tennessee: Today, U.S. Representatives Chuck Fleischmann and Steve Womack spoke to an audience of transportation and logistics leaders at Thrive Regional Partnership’s first Freight Mobility Coalition meeting of the year, hosted today at McKee Foods in Collegedale, Tennessee.
Both representatives serve on the House Appropriations Committee, which determines how much funding each authorized federal government agency and program receives.

Congressman Steve Womack
Congressman Womack represents the 3rd district of Arkansas. Womack serves on the Appropriations Committee, and within that, as the Chairman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Subcommittee.
Congressman Chuck Fleischmann
Congressman Fleischmann represents the 3rd district of Tennessee, including Bradley, Hamilton, McMinn, and Polk counties in greater Chattanooga. Fleischmann serves on the Appropriations Committee and, within that, as the Chairman of the Energy and Water Development Subcommittee, allowing him to prioritize funding for the Chickamauga Lock, a critical East Tennessee infrastructure project.

Attendees of Thrive’s Freight Mobility Coalition meeting experienced a unique opportunity to hear firsthand about federal challenges that affect funding for states and communities across the country. In his remarks, Womack commended the regional cooperation of Thrive’s multi-state model and encouraged continued collaboration. Representative Fleischmann recognized the power of collaboration to build consensus and make progress to address broad challenges such as infrastructure and energy.

The Freight Mobility Coalition of Thrive Regional Partnership is a cross-sector network that holds industry-related conversations across county and state boundaries. As a group they advocate for optimizing existing regional infrastructure and assets to develop intermodal freight solutions. The coalition also publicizes the state of the freight industry, increasing awareness of trends that impact the logistics economy.
