$5.25 Million Fund Launched for Land Conservation & Climate Change in the Region

To accelerate land conservation along the Appalachian Mountains to counter climate change and its impacts, the Open Space Institute (OSI) announced the launch of its $18 million Appalachian Landscapes Protection Fund (ALPF), which will focus, in part, on protecting key sections of Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia.

USDA Invests Nearly $17 Million in Broadband in Rural TN

In the tri-state region, Volunteer Energy Cooperative will use a $3.7 million ReConnect grant to deploy a fiber-to-the-premises network to connect 2,687 people, 79 farms and nine businesses to high-speed broadband internet in Meigs County, Tennessee.

Pigeon Mountain’s Wildflower Wonderland

Pigeon Mountain’s Wildflower Wonderland Pigeon Mountain’s Wildflower Wonderland Pigeon Mountain, located just west of LaFayette, Georgia, is essentially an arm of Lookout Mountain. It stretches for about ten miles northeast of its divergence from the east side of Lookout Mountain, and is largely contained within the 20,657-acre state-owned Crockford-Pigeon Mountain Wildlife Management Area. The mountain reaches an elevation of around 2,330 feet at its highest point, and overlooks the pastoral V-shaped McLemore Cove, which lies between it and Lookout Mountain.
