#SaveLWCF to Protect Our Region's Treasured Places
The Land and Water Conservation Fund protects invaluable natural landscapes and waterways that serve as important havens for biodiversity and outdoor recreation.
The fund is sourced not by taxpayer dollars, rather by royalties paid by energy companies to access off-shore drill sites ($900 million annually). The fund is scheduled to expire on September 30, 2018, unless Congress takes action.
Learn more about the LWCF expiration date.
Over the last 5 decades, #LWCF has contributed $153 million to Alabama, $334 million to Georgia, and $208 million to Tennessee in federal and state grants. In the greater Chattanooga region alone, the LWCF protects Little River Canyon National Preserve, Cherokee National Forest, and the Chickamauga National Military Park, all of which are incomparable in their natural beauty and cultural significance.
We urge Senators Richard Shelby (AL), Johnny Isakson (GA), and Lamar Alexander (TN) to support the reauthorization and dedicated funding of the Land and Water Conservation Fund to continue protecting the natural assets of our beautiful region and nation.
