Alabama Seeks Input on Statewide Outdoor Recreation Plan

The University of Alabama is partnering with the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs to update the Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (“SCORP”) and needs your input! 

The SCORP is an important document that guides the state’s investment of funds in outdoor recreation infrastructure, assists recreation planners and providers in making informed decisions about infrastructure improvements, and helps coordinate the efforts of multiple organizations to more effectively meet the outdoor recreation needs of Alabamians.  

The University invites key leaders in outdoor recreation to participate in one of 10 online facilitated meetings to inform the update of Alabama’s Outdoor Recreation Strategy. You will be asked to share your thoughts on the vision and values that should shape future outdoor recreation development in the state and what you think are the needs that must be met in order to achieve a collective vision. 

Each online facilitated meeting will last 1 hour, on the following dates and times:

Wednesday, October 14

11:00 AM

12:30 PM

4:00 PM

5:30 PM

Thursday, October 15

11:00 AM

12:30 PM

4:00 PM

5:30 PM

Friday, October 16

9:00 AM

10:30 AM

Attendance at each meeting is limited to 8 individuals on a first-come first-serve basis, so register at your earliest convenience by emailing Brian Rushing, Director of Economic Development Initiatives for the University of Alabama. Provide your name, title, and requested date and time. You will receive a confirmation email, and if your requested time slot is unavailable, they will let you know which ones are.

If you are a local park and recreation operator, they recommend that you register for either the 11:00 AM or 12:30 PM meeting on Wednesday, October 14. If you are affiliated with a recreation user group, they encourage you to register for either the 11:00 AM or 12:30 PM meeting on Thursday, October 15.
